LLB sees his Property Portraits as following on from the tradition of Swagger Portraits that imparted sitters with a powerful and charismatic allure using dramatic lighting and glamorous symbology. He takes a house and it’s surrounding landscape and re-sites them in an imagined Baroque world where the spirit and character of the architecture and setting are captured but given a far greater sense of dramatic aplomb. Irritating power pylons or unloved 20th Century extensions can be erased with the skillful flick of the LLB brush and replaced with a longed for Gothic Orangery or a chinoisserie gazebo.

MURALS
LLBs ability to paint space, light and atmosphere with such Romantic panache is seen at its very best in the imagined vistas he creates as trompe l’oile openings in solid walls or indeed ceillings. With an encyclopaediac knowledge of Art and applied Art history his murals and decorative painted schemes are very much recognised as extraordinary. Many of his commissions are completed on canvas panels allowing for works to be repositioned as clients move on.
